A higher percentage of leukemic blasts with vacuoles predicts unfavorable outcomes in patients with acute myeloid leukemia
2021, Leukemia ResearchCitation Excerpt :Gajendra et al. reported that intracytoplasmic vacuolization in myeloblasts is rarely seen and occurs because of mucopolysaccharides, fat droplets, ingested erythrocytes, fibrillar formation, or altered mitochondria in the cell cytoplasm [30]. Reiffers et al. and Stavem et al. reported that vacuoles in AML blasts contained lipids [31,32]. Miura et al. observed the presence of vacuoles in erythroblasts of an erythroleukemic patient containing amorphous, nubecular materials with low electron density [33].
