Therapeutic Modification of Hypoxia
2021, Clinical OncologyCitation Excerpt :As the tumour's blood supply is the oxygen source, the earliest attempts focused on the tumour vasculature. The end points included immunohistochemical estimates of intercapillary distance, vascular density and distance from tumour cells to the nearest blood vessel [32–34]. Attempts were also made to measure oxyhaemoglobin saturation using cryophotometry, near infrared spectroscopy or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) [35–37].

2002, International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology PhysicsCitation Excerpt :The latter two have the added advantage that they can be carried out also on archival material. Previous studies have shown a relationship between vasculature and outcome (26–30). Such studies have assessed intervessel distances, vascular density, or “hot spots.”
