SOD1 mutations cause hypersensitivity to high-pressure-induced oxidative stress in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
2022, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta - General SubjectsCitation Excerpt :In a broad spectrum of organisms, lack of SOD activity is associated with severe oxidative damage, including membrane lipid peroxidation, protein carbonylation, and DNA breakage [29–32]. Sod1 is abundant in the cytosol but is also found in the nucleus [33], lysosomes [34], endoplasmic reticulum [35], and intermembrane space (IMS) of mitochondria [36,37]. The IMS contains only 1% of cellular Sod1, which is present at a high density owing to the tiny volume of this space.

2019, Molecular and Cellular NeuroscienceCitation Excerpt :SOD1 is an abundant antioxidant enzyme responsible for the conversion of superoxide to hydrogen peroxide (Wang et al., 2018). SOD1 is ubiquitously expressed in many cellular compartments, including the IMS of the mitochondria (Chang et al., 1988; Liou et al., 1993; Crapo et al., 1992; Okado-Matsumoto and Fridovich, 2001; Sturtz et al., 2001). In contrast, the manganese superoxide SOD2 localizes exclusively to the matrix of the mitochondria (Slot et al., 1986).
Evaluating the influence of the diamine unit (ethylenediamine, piperazine and homopiperazine) on the molecular structure, physical chemical properties and superoxide dismutase activity of copper complexes Dedicated to Prof. Ademir Neves on the occasion of his 65th birthday.
2016, Inorganica Chimica ActaCitation Excerpt :Although the first three promote the oxidation of different substrates, the latter promotes both the reduction and oxidation of the superoxide anion. There are different SOD enzymes in nature whose active site may contain Mn, Fe, Ni or Cu [31–35]. Actually, the copper superoxide dismutase contains Cu and Zn in its active site, and therefore, it is known as CuZn-SOD [36,37].
