Amyloidosis and Other Protein Deposition Diseases
2022, Emery and Rimoin's Principles and Practice of Medical Genetics and Genomics: Hematologic, Renal, and Immunologic DisordersHighly Reactive Isolevuglandins Promote Atrial Fibrillation Caused by Hypertension
2020, JACC: Basic to Translational ScienceCitation Excerpt :These findings point to a causative role for atrial cell stretch in the pathophysiology of AF susceptibility during hypertension. The amyloid-forming protein ANP is a prominent component in aging-related (senile) atrial amyloidosis, and some studies support the presence of BNP in these deposits as well (20,22,36). Given that ANP is a component of the PAOs that form in both human atrium and rapidly stimulated atrial cells (23,24), we investigated the role of natriuretic peptides in hypertension-mediated PAOs using several approaches.
Cardiac telocytes. From basic science to cardiac diseases. I. Atrial fibrillation
2018, Annals of AnatomyCitation Excerpt :IAA is generated by the local, atrial, deposition of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), a substance synthesized by atrial myocytes (Kaye et al., 1986). Johansson et al. (1987) showed that amyloid atrial fibrils contain the same N-terminal amino acid sequence of the ANP, and that antisera to ANP and amyloid fibril protein, label atrial muscle cells and atrial amyloid in an identical fashion. Takemura showed, using immunocytochemistry at the electron microscopic level, that ANP is secreted by atrial myocytes, and confirmed the results using in-situ hybridization for ANP mRNA (Takemura et al., 1998).
EHRA/HRS/APHRS/SOLAECE expert consensus on Atrial cardiomyopathies: Definition, characterisation, and clinical implication
2016, Journal of ArrhythmiaCitation Excerpt :The PV atrial reversal velocity has also been used as a measurement of LA function [317,377,379–382]. In the presence of reduced LV compliance and elevated filling pressures, atrial contraction results in significant flow reversal into the PVs [80,81]. Studies have also demonstrated that Doppler tissue imaging can be used as an accurate marker of atrial function [383,384].
