Phytonutrients in the management of lipids metabolism
2022, The Role of Phytonutrients in Metabolic DisordersLifelong soya consumption in males does not increase lifespan but increases health span under a metabolic stress such as type 2 diabetes mellitus
2021, Mechanisms of Ageing and DevelopmentCitation Excerpt :Although ubiquitous in their occurrence in the plant kingdom, these bioactive non-nutrients are found in particularly high concentrations in soybeans, and have been found to have a wide range of hormonal and non-hormonal activities, that serve to provide plausible mechanisms for the potential health benefits of diets rich in phytoestrogens (Setchell and Cassidy, 1999). Cross-sectional studies have shown that higher phytoestrogen levels in urine and plasma are associated with a lower risk of diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, osteoporosis, or cancer (Adlercreutz et al., 1982, 1991; Coxam, 2008; Gonzalez Canete and Duran Aguero, 2014; Kim et al., 2021; Kuhnle et al., 2011). Genistein, a phytoestrogen present in soya, is used in clinical practice to prevent menopause-associated hot flushes (D’Anna et al., 2009) and is devoid of significant side effects (Squadrito et al., 2013).

2019, European Journal of PharmacologyPhytoestrogens and breast cancer: In vitro anticancer activities of isoflavones, lignans, coumestans, stilbenes and their analogs and derivatives
2018, Biomedicine and PharmacotherapyCitation Excerpt :A hospital-based case-control study conducted in Satara district, India, from 2009 to 2011 concluded that non-vegetarian diet, excess salt and fat and being overweight was strongly associated with breast cancer [6]. Phytoestrogen effect on reducing breast cancer incidence has been dated back to the 1980s, when studies showed that the level of phytoestrogens in plasma and urine in subjects were inversely correlated with the incidence of breast cancer [7–11]. These findings have prompted studies on the possible protective actions of phytoestrogens against breast cancer.
