The prognostic role of MMR deficiency in colorectal cancer has been widely defined: patients with MMR defects have an overall favorable prognosis compared to those with intact MMR expression (24,25). In EC, the clinical value of MMR status is still debated, particularly in early-stage disease (26–29).

MSI is found in a varying proportion of sporadic cancers that belong to the spectrum of cancer types that occur in this syndrome, including colorectal, endometrial, gastric, small intestine, urothelial, central nervous system and sebaceous gland neoplasms [1–3]. Recent evidence demonstrating that MSI is a predictive biomarker for immunotherapy [4–7] has increased the clinical request from oncologists for dMMR testing on many different cancer types.
