AB Idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis is represented as one of the manifestations of a widespread disease, systemic idiopathic fibrosis. Some evidence is presented which suggests its origin as an inflammatory disease of adipose tissue. Although relatively rare, the idiopathic diseases of adipose tissue and its blood vessels are worthy of closer study.
