p21 expression is a prognostic factor in patients with p53-negative gastric cancer
2000, Cancer LettersCitation Excerpt :Thus, both p53-dependent and independent pathways must be examined when considering p21 expression. The p21 protein is overexpressed in a variety of normal tissues, including the epithelium of the gastrointestinal tract [10–12], where it is associated with terminally differentiated or senescent cells that have ceased to divide. Although the relationship between p21 expression and tumors progression has been reported [13–17] the significance of prognostic value for cancer patients is still controversial [18–21].
