Lysosomal and cytoskeletal events in epithelial salivary tumours as assessed by imunohistochemistry for CD63 and HSP27
2022, Pathology Research and PracticeCitation Excerpt :The present findings also support the epithelial origin of spindled cells in stroma-rich basal cell adenoma [9] and envisaging salivary adenomas as a continuum [1]. The granular subplasmalemmal CD63 staining in a plasmacytoid monomorphic adenoma possibly relates to phagolysosomes involved in remodelling of the cytoskeleton (see 4.2 below) and displaced to the periphery of the cells by intermediate filaments accumulating in the cytoplasm [35]. Different stages in the process would account for the variation in staining.
Lipofuscin pigmentation in pleomorphic adenoma of the palate
2001, Oral Surgery, Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology, Oral Radiology, and EndodonticsCitation Excerpt :Buchner and David4,5 investigated lipofuscin in normal salivary glands and salivary gland tumors but did not discuss its pathologic significance. They reported that cellular content of lipofuscin may increase with advancing cell age.5 Because benign salivary gland tumors are typically slow-growing, the amount of pigment granules in these tumors may give some indication of the age of the tumor.
