    Staff consultants return diagnoses and comments to telemedicine personnel for incorporation into the consultation report via online forms. A number of authors have identified data integrity and security as integral in the process of telemedicine,11,29,33,61,66-68 and the AFIP provides the high levels of security in the safeguarding of patient data both in transit and during consultation and archiving. Early in the AFIP program, when MIME-encapsulated e-mail attachment was the most widely used protocol for transmission of case data, contributors were required to transmit all patient-identifying data by telefacsimile to prevent interception of sensitive data.
