Dr Bal is a subcommittee member of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) task force for managing cancers. His aim is to crosslink patient care (diagnostic pathology of bone and soft tissue tumors) with basic research (elucidating the molecular events underlying sarcoma development and progression) in order to establish improved diagnosis, prognosis and treatment for patients with bone and soft tissue tumors. One of his major research interests are the lipomatous tumors, in particular ‘liposarcomagenesis’, and pediatric sarcomas.
